The word "hypnosis" comes from the Greek word "hypnos," which means "to sleep." Two hundred years ago, people were under the mistaken impression that hypnosis was a state of sleep, or unconsciousness. In fact, hypnosis is a safe, natural, relaxed state of consciousness. All of us are already experts in bringing ourselves into a state of hypnosis, and in fact, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. Most of us walk around in our lives in one trance state or another. Any self-limiting beliefs, or phobias, or emotional baggage that your mind cannot release are simply states of hypnosis that you walk around with every day. Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to access the subconscious mind and assist you in removing your obstacles to health and personal growth. With hypnotherapy, you have full awareness and full control, and you will get what you need. I like to say that hypnotherapy is more like de-hypnosis -- you have already spent a lifetime hypnotizing yourself into creating self-limiting beliefs and behaviors, and now it's time to let them go. Some people go very lightly into hypnosis, and some people go very deeply, and most people are somewhere in the middle. It's very similar to daydreaming, but with more focus and more relaxation. In this relaxed state, you can easily access your subconscious mind and release your physical and emotional baggage easily and with minimal suffering.
